MEASLES OUTBREAK 2025

We are tracking the growing number of measles (rubeola) cases clustered in West Texas. Our state health officials are keeping medical providers informed of recommendations regarding this outbreak.

Measles is an extremely contagious disease, but can be prevented by vaccination.

Currently (February 27, 2025), there is no recommendation from our local health officials to give additional vaccines in our area.

However, if your child is 12 months of age (or older) and has not had a measles vaccine (MMR), we urge you to get them vaccinated.

Children age 4 and older should have 2 doses of MMR vaccine.

1 dose of vaccine is 93% effective against measles.  2 doses of vaccine are 97% effective.

A child should not get a measles vaccine if they are immune compromised.  Pregnant women should not get the vaccine.

If your child is due for vaccination or will travel to an area at high risk for measles, please set an appointment.

If you believe your child has measles, please notify our staff before you come to the office. Do not enter the facility. We will speak with you and determine how to evaluate and care for your child.
