Protect Your Family From the Flu – Schedule An Appointment for Flumist
The Pediatric Center of Round Rock just received shipment of Flumist vaccine, the intranasal form of the flu vaccine – no shots required! This year we want to start early by administering Flumist first to those who prefer it and don’t have any contraindication to the use of this form of vaccine.
Flumist can be given to those 2 years or older, all the way to age 49. It should not be administered to patients with a history of asthma or reactive airway disease. It is also contraindicated in patients with an allergy to egg protein.
We are going to be able to administer Flumist by appointment only. The front office will call your private insurance to verify coverage ahead.
We are also going to be able to administer the vaccine to parents and relatives of our patients, by appointment also. We don’t bill the insurance of adult patients. The charge for the vaccine for adults is $40. Like every year, we can give the vaccine to other family members as well. Just inform the front office staff when you arrive.
Patients with asthma and chronic disease should receive the flu shot as soon as possible. The vaccine is indicated for patients after 6 months of age. Those under 8 years of age, who receive the vaccine for the first time in their lives, need two doses separated by at least one month. If your child received the flu vaccine in years prior, he/she needs just one dose for the season. Click here to learn about the Top 10 Flu Myths.
